What's on at Grassroots Sound studio, one of Manitoba's top recording studios.
Well it’s been a hectic last couple of weeks Finished recording, mixing , mastering and running off a couple hundred copies os the newest Misty Rose C.D.(Angel Fly with Me). Spent 4 days at the Winnipeg Folk Festival catching up with old friends, making some new ones, jamming and taking in the musical pot pourie. Caught up with Tannis Slimmon and picked up a copy of her new disc (Lucky Blue) Get yourselves a copy if you can , It’s great. Did a live recording of Yours Truly and also a live sound gig at the waterfront in Selkirk with the Good News Band. I’m heading out to play the Manitoba Stampede tomorrow and Saturday and i’m back Sunday morning doing live sound at the waterfront for the Aboriginal Church. Also just finished up 400 C.D.’s for Gerald Folster and the’re moving well. I guess I’ll talk to you again next week. Bye for now from Wayne or his evil twin, that other guy.
If you don’t mind it raining every day and a bazillion mosquitoes looking for blood. All the more reason to hide out in the studio till I finish all the projects. Marylin is in again working on the rythym guitar tracks for her project. Paul Cerilli was in the other night doing drum an percussion tracks on the last song going on my C.D. The song is a new one called Never Said Goodbye.Tommorow and the next day have the Misty Rose gospel group in starting their new C.D. I’ll keep you updated as it progresses. The weekend has every live sound system I own out at the Highland Gathering in Selkirk and the Canada day celebrations in Lac du Bonnet and at Casey’s bar in Lac du Bonnet. So I guess I’ll be running my butt off this week. Oh well, it’ll keep me from hanging out at the seven elevens listening to elevator music. Talk to you next week. Wayne
Well here we go again. Doing more tracks on Marilyn’s project. It’s moving along nicely and this week we’ll be doing the last of the bed tracks and putting in the bass so we have the foundation in place. Just got the artwork completed for Gerald’s C.D. so that will be going out for printing this week. As always Sam has done an awesome job on the design and makes us all look clever. This weekend is the annual summer solstice B.B.Q. and jam and party at Angel and Darryl’s farm so tunes will be played. Also have a live show to do sound for on saturday and another on Sunday so it’s going to be a busy one for sure. Remember, if you can’t be good at least be consistant. Catch you all next week. Wayne
Well we just started laying down bed tracks for Marilyn Bedard’s new album project. It will be another beautiful Christian Gospel offering by the daughter of Mel Bedard , who before health problems was one of the region’s finest traditional fiddle players. Marilyn is working with a group of dedicated musicians who share her love of music and a number of friends who will be coming in to make guest appearances on the project. Names and details to follow as they appear and the project progresses. I’ll be out playing live this weekend with Bullrush at a fundraising social for our local dance troupe that’s gunning for another national championship. Good luck gang. Last weekend I sat in with Tim Butler’s band saturday night on the mandolin and with Big Dave McLean on Sunday evening on the upright doghouse bass. Too bad I never get to have any fun. My rock and roll class that I teach at Sprited Music one night a week put on a succesful year ending show tuesday evening to a full house. Congratulations and we see you when the fall classes start up. Well that’s it for this week. Remember …… If you party till you fall down it’s probably going to hurt. Wayne
Working on a bunch of things this week , with a couple of sessions and laying down the first tracks for song #12 on my solo C.D. (which has guest appearances from a bunch of my musical friends) I promise it’ll be done soon and then I can move on to solving the Mid-East crisis and world hunger. Hopefully I’ll have a bit of free time to tackle global warming too but you know how scheduling can screw up the best laid plans. I’ll try to upload some photos of the studio session with Jusang Lee from a few weeks back and we’ll talk again next week. Wayne
Here we go again. Had the Maclean brothers and their band in this weekend tracking and mixing their tune De Lemon Knows. Great groove happening on this one and the gang seemed to find lots of toys in the studio to amuse themselves with. Watch out for this project. It’s a good one. Finished the final mixes on Gerald Folster’s album and we’ll be mastering this week. The buzz has started and gerald is working on funding for some video work on a couple of the tunes . just wrote a new song for my C.D. so we’ll start tracking that one this week. looks like it will be the closing tune on the project which I guess makes sense cause it’s called ” Didn’t Say Goodbye” because unless I get hit by a train I’ll be back. Talk to you next week. That Wayne Guy
Yep i’m back from a week of live sound and recording in lac Du Bonnet with Los Grande ninos (the large boys) . Once again too much of a good time was had. The weekend before had Bill Zulak (one of the hottest fiddle players around) in from Calgary to do a couple of tracks and to party with a bunch of his old musician friends( the Muddy River Stringers and a bunch of other musical lunatics) Food was B.B.Q.’d , beer was drank and tunes were played. Life is so complicated when you’re dealing with musicians. This week we’re mixing Gerald’s album. he finished the vocal tracks the other day and Ken Bialek was in to lay down some more guitar parts on the last 3 songs. the world is unfolding as it should and more stuff is on the way. Talk to you soon. Wayne
Well , another day another 37 cents after taxes. Giving “it’s not my Fault” a serious listen before the final adjustments. Honest we are going to be finished soon. Always hardest to work on your own stuff cause it’s never perfect. Hard to believe coming from someone who occasionally suffers from “delusions of adequacy”. Fixing some tracks on gerald’s c.d. this week too. Ken Bialek is in thursday to do his last 2 guitar tracks on Gerald’s tunes.Friday we have Marti Sarbit in from Brandon Manitoba to do some tracks for her first project. An assortment of projects on the go this weekend so a good time will be had by all. See you next time. Wayne
well here we go again. another week of hard labor , pushing buttons , mixing tunes, tracking new stuff and generally just having fun. built some new shelving and installed them in the office for better access and more organization. Looks prettier than 2 hogs at feeding time. Final mixes on the last couple of tracks of “It’s not My Fault” this week and then we master. Doug Mclean’s band is still working on their tune and will be in next month for a session of tracking . Also doing the last couple of tracks on gerald’s new C.D. Catch you on the next time around. Wayne
Well we started the day with Billy joe Green in doing some guitar and slide tracks for “ten toes up” . Got some excellent (NASTY) tracks for this tune, This evening Gerald Falster was in workin on his tune (Beautiful Woman”) for his upcoming C.D. Tomorrow Norm shorting will be in to put down some pedal steel and piano parts on 3 more of Gerald’;s tunes. Wednesday has Alvin kaskie in to lay down some tracks for his next C.D. project. Updates will be posted as they come in. Thursday has Ken Bialek in doing lead guitar parts on the last 2 songs on my upcoming solo project. O.K. , it’s my studio, my tunes and I’m the slowest one in the studio at the moment. It’s not my fault (honest). This weekend has paul Mclean’s band in doing a song for their next project with some of the studio time they won in last summer’s “Battle of the Bands” at the Selkirk Waterfront. More news as it happens. Wayne
